In the Right Direction

A place to find a wealth of information on a wide range of topics finance and insurance topics.

Being from an area with a lot of small businesses, we at McDowell have been privileged to watch so many business owners make a go of it. Of course, this close-up view has also helped lend some perspective. Namely, and this will come as no surprise to anyone who’s ever started a business, getting a new endeavor off the ground is HARD. Like, really, REALLY, hard. With infinite money and time and energy, sure, it could be a walk in the park, but that’s not the experience for anyone we know of.

Now, with all those precious resources at a premium, we know what usually happens: long-term Business planning goes by the wayside, and insurance gets bought semi-mindlessly from the easiest and “cheapest” source. This is not a judgment, mind you. McDowell has been in business for over 100 years – so believe us when we say: we know how hard it can be to stay afloat.

But like so many other times in life, we believe the answer to these woes – especially for business owners – is relationship. Relationship with someone you trust and someone who’s constantly looking out for you and your business.

There are many different ways we can help small businesses looking to make some headway in both the financial services and insurance fronts. Below are a few examples of some common issues we encounter and how we begin to address them:

Small businesses have tight financial constraints, especially when starting out.

(With everything from tax planning to in-depth business plans, McDowell can help small businesses get off the ground and keep going. Because we understand the unique challenges to keeping a business running, we can help you find the right plans, coverages, technologies, and more to keep you succeeding.)

Most small businesses are buying services and insurance from someone they’ve never met before.

At McDowell, business owners have a personal relationship with us. That means when they pick up the phone to talk about rates or to file a claim or to talk through a change to their business, they know EXACTLY who they’re talking to. We’re not just in the business of insurance or financial services – we’re in the business of you.

Small businesses are often underinsured or over-insured

While the old adage about never being too careful is certainly true, a lot of small businesses are either buying insurance and services they don’t need or are dangerously underinsured. Most of this boils down to simply not knowing what they need. Because we get to know each one of our clients and their businesses, we at McDowell can tell our clients EXACTLY what they need, and what they might be missing.

We know there are a myriad of questions you might have about your own insurance or financial service needs. Thankfully, we’re well-stocked with answers.

The landscape of business is changing quickly – even in the past year, there have been many business owners who’ve had to start from scratch or redefine how they did business to accommodate for the growing digital needs. Many are wondering if their current business model will still yield results or if their coverages still count in this digital age. We’re excited by questions and more excited about what the results could mean for you!

If you’re the owner of a small business and you’ve started wondering about the long-term trajectory of your business or whether the coverages you have are right for you, we’d love to hear from you!
